Named for the 108 heroes of the classic novel Water Margin, the Great Song 108 Trail Race starts October 17-18 from Wushan Square in Hangzhou's Shangcheng District, with categories named after the novel's ranks: Tiangang 108KM, Dishas 72KM, Qunxiong 42KM, Haohan 21KM, and a 6KM Challenge route. Registration opens June 10 at 10:00.
The 108KM (101.67km actual, 5,700m of climbing, 500-runner cap, ITRA ~5 points) starts 7:30 AM on the 17th with a 30-hour cutoff; the 72KM (71.24km, 4,000m climbing, 700 cap, ITRA ~3 points) starts 7:50 AM with an 18-hour cutoff; the 42KM (41.5km, 2,220m climbing, 1,200 cap, ITRA ~2 points) starts in two waves on the 18th with a 10.5-hour cutoff; the 21KM (20.6km, 1,100m climbing, 2,200 cap, ITRA ~1 point) starts in three waves with a 7-hour cutoff; the 6KM (300m climbing, 400 cap) starts 7:40 AM with a 3-hour cutoff.
Every category includes race gear ranging from branded packs and technical shirts to a rolling suitcase, with finisher gifts including trail vests, softshell jackets, capes, and a "Tiger Seal - Fortune Turns" finisher medal.
