SLOW MBO - Holden Farm

About the Event

Immerse yourself in the rolling hills and picturesque landscapes of the South Downs National Park near Winchester with this unique mountain bike orienteering adventure. The event takes place around the western end of the South Downs Way, offering riders an array of scenic routes to explore.
Participants will receive a detailed OS A3 waterproof map annotated with checkpoints that they must navigate using their own planning skills and creativity within a timeframe of two or three hours. Whether you're an orienteering veteran or just looking for some fresh air and exercise in the countryside, this event welcomes riders aged 12 and above.
The challenge is part of the SLOW 2025/26 Series, which comprises six events throughout the year, and also counts towards the BMBO National League. Competitors can join as soloists or form pairs or family teams to tackle the course together.
To participate, all you need is an iPhone or Android phone with MapRun App installed; a link for downloading the specific event map will be sent out shortly before race day along with your PIN code. Remember not to enter this code until you're ready to start as it marks your official time commencement.
For newcomers unfamiliar with orienteering, basic equipment such as a bike-mounted map board can be borrowed on site if needed. The event is organized by SLOW MBO and regional clubs adhering strictly to BMBO guidelines. While membership of SLOW MBO isn't mandatory, having an active 2026 BMBO membership is highly recommended; good news for those just starting out as day rider memberships are free.
After your ride, enjoy refreshments at the farm café where you can compare notes and routes with fellow participants over a well-deserved break. The venue also offers camping facilities should you wish to extend your stay in this cycling paradise.
Start times range from 09:00am to 10:30am, giving everyone ample opportunity to prepare for their adventure through the South Downs Way’s stunning terrain and scenery.
This event is a fantastic blend of physical challenge and mental strategy set against one of England's most beautiful backdrops. Don't miss out on this chance to explore the South Downs National Park in a unique way!
