Winter Endurance: An Epic 80-Mile Journey Through Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk
In December 2026, runners will embark on an extraordinary adventure across the picturesque landscapes of Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk. This inaugural winter race promises to challenge even the most seasoned endurance athletes with its rugged terrain and cold conditions.
The event kicks off at Manningtree early in the morning on December 5th, welcoming participants from around 8am for pre-race preparations before setting out at precisely 10:00 AM. The course is meticulously designed to traverse a mix of rural paths, woodland trails, and open fields, offering runners an immersive experience through diverse winter landscapes.
Throughout this epic journey, competitors will encounter four critical checkpoints (CP) at approximately the 17-mile, 28-mile, 45-mile, and 63-mile marks. Each checkpoint serves as a crucial moment for restocking supplies and checking in with race organizers before continuing onward towards the finish line located in Brandon.
With an overall cut-off time of 28 hours from start to finish, participants are encouraged to maintain steady progress throughout their journey. The race's challenging nature demands thorough preparation; therefore, all runners must carry essential gear including waterproof clothing, a headlamp with sufficient battery life for extended darkness, and emergency supplies such as food rations and survival bags.
Supporting this event is the innovative tracking system provided by Open Tracking, which allows friends, family, and spectators to follow competitors' progress in real-time from home. This feature also includes an SOS function that can be activated should any runner require immediate assistance during their trek.
Entry into Winter Endurance offers early bird discounts for those who register promptly: The first 25 runners secure a special rate of £80, followed by the next 25 receiving a discounted entry fee of £100. After these initial slots are filled, all subsequent entries will incur the full price of £120.
