About the Event

The Standhope Ultra Challenge returns to Ketchum, Idaho on July 24th through the 26th of 2026, offering a trio of challenging ultra distances for seasoned runners looking to test their limits in high-altitude terrain. This year’s event features no early starts due to logistical constraints, with races scheduled over two days—July 25 and 26—to accommodate the rigorous demands on participants and organizers alike.
On race morning, temperatures will likely hover around a comfortable average of 19 degrees Celsius, but runners should be prepared for rapid changes as weather in mountainous areas can shift quickly. The terrain is characterized by steep ascents to elevations exceeding 11,000 feet, remote wilderness trails, and long stretches between aid stations, making thorough preparation essential.
Since its inception several years ago, the Standhope Ultra Challenge has grown into a significant event within Idaho’s running community. With no qualifying requirements this year but an explicit warning against underestimating the race difficulty, it attracts experienced runners seeking serious accomplishments or training grounds for even more demanding races. Each distance culminates in unique handcrafted awards celebrating those who successfully complete their chosen challenge.
The Standhope Ultra Challenge takes place primarily within and around Park Creek Campground to Star Hope Campground, covering rugged trails that traverse remote wilderness areas with varying terrain conditions from firm paths to slightly soft surfaces due to the natural landscape. The 100 Mile course spans two days, while both the 60K and 30K races occur on July 25th alone.
Weather in Ketchum during early July typically features an average temperature of around 19 degrees Celsius with a range from as low as nine to highs reaching nearly thirty. The humidity averages at 41 percent, while UV index levels are very high at eight, necessitating sun protection measures for all participants throughout the race duration.

In the Standhope Ultra Challenge, runners can choose between three distances: the grueling 100 Mile Race covering a total of 160.9 kilometers; the intense 60K with its formidable climbs and stunning alpine vistas over 37 miles (59.2 kilometers); or the compact yet demanding 30K, which packs in almost five thousand feet of elevation gain across remote trails on the back half of the longer course.
Registration for participants can be completed through https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=128858 until July 24th. Entry fees range from $150 for the 30K to $400 for the full 160-mile event, with separate tickets required if using shuttle services provided by Nomadic Van Life Inc., available at https://nomadicvan.life/partsandswag/p/standhope-ultra-marathon-delica-shuttle-service until July 17th. Bib pickup details will be communicated closer to the race date.
The start location for all races is Park Creek Campground, with participants needing to ensure they have sufficient gear and training for long days on steep terrain. Age requirements are not specified but given the nature of these ultra distances, it's recommended that only experienced endurance runners aged 18 or above participate in this challenging event.
The Standhope Ultra Challenge concludes its run through Ketchum, Idaho on July 26th after two intense racing days filled with high-altitude adventures and testing terrain for even seasoned athletes. For those ready to embrace a true mountain race experience, the Pioneer Mountains offer an unforgettable test of endurance and skill.
