Immerse yourself in the picturesque Warwickshire countryside with the James & John Kemp Starley Sportive, an annual cycling event that honors Coventry’s rich history in bicycling innovation. The ride offers three distinct routes designed to cater to cyclists of various skill levels and endurance goals. Starting at 8:30am sharp, participants will embark on a journey through some of Warwickshire's most scenic landscapes. Fully signed and GPS-enabled routes ensure a smooth navigation experience for all riders. Whether you choose the shorter route or tackle one of the longer options, each course is meticulously planned to showcase the area’s natural beauty. The event includes essential amenities such as car parking and bike racking at convenient locations along the start line. Cyclists will also have access to signing on and off facilities throughout their ride for added convenience. Post-ride refreshments are a highlight of the day, with complimentary tea, coffee, and cake awaiting all participants upon completion. To enhance safety and enjoyment, automatic chip timing is provided, allowing riders to track their progress accurately. Additionally, mechanical recovery services are available should any unexpected issues arise during your ride. The longer routes feature strategically placed food and water stations along the way to keep you fueled throughout the day’s adventure. All proceeds from this event go directly towards supporting local charities, making every pedal stroke a contribution to community welfare. For detailed rider information and updates on start times (which are currently set for 8:30am-9:30am), be sure to visit the official Starley Sportive website. About Coventry
Learn more about the host city, Coventry.
Coventry is a large city in the West Midlands region of England, part of the United Kingdom. It has a population of just over 365,000 (2018), making it the eleventh-largest city in the country. Locally, the city is known as 'The Three Spired City', because of the church and cathedral spires that form the most striking aspect of the city's landscape. Coventry is perhaps best known for its association with the 11th century legend of Lady Godiva and for its two cathedrals, one of which is preserved as ruins after heavy bombing in the Second World War. Although an old city, visitors should not expect much in the way of old-world charm. Extensive rebuilding of the city following the war in the 1940s and 1950s replaced much of its pre-war appeal with questionable concrete structures and a highly pedestrianised city centre, enveloped by a partially-elevated ring road.
