Steep Ultra

The Newfoundland Mountain Ultra invites trail runners from around the globe to explore the breathtaking landscapes of western Newfoundland. This ultra-distance race offers two challenging courses: an epic 100km route and a more accessible 50km option, both designed to showcase the region's stunning natural beauty.
Set against the backdrop of the majestic Long Range Mountains, participants will navigate rugged terrain that includes steep climbs and sweeping descents over vast stretches of untouched wilderness. The 100km course features an impressive elevation gain of over 13,000 feet as runners traverse four mountain peaks twice, providing a true test of endurance and determination.
For those seeking a more moderate challenge, the 50km route offers nearly 7,000 feet of ascent while winding through scenic trails along the Humber River. Both courses offer breathtaking ocean views and remote landscapes that highlight Newfoundland's unique charm as a trail running destination.
The race is not just about pushing physical limits; it’s also an opportunity to connect with a vibrant community of runners who share a passion for adventure in nature. STEEP, the organizing body behind this event, aims to foster inclusivity and sustainability while celebrating western Newfoundland's natural wonders.

Whether you're tackling the full 100km or taking on the half distance, the Newfoundland Mountain Ultra promises an unforgettable experience that combines stunning scenery with challenging terrain. Registration is now open until August 15th, 2026, offering early bird rates of $120 CAD for the 100km and $85 CAD for the 50km races.
