The event takes place along the scenic trails of Centennial Park in downtown Saskatoon. Step Up for Mental Health has been a staple in Saskatoon since its inception two years ago, bringing together runners from all walks of life to support mental health programs in the community. This year marks its third consecutive run, with over 600 participants expected. The event is presented by Cameco and all net proceeds will benefit local mental health initiatives.
Race organizers have designed a course that winds through Centennial Park’s firm yet slightly soft trails, offering scenic views of the city while providing a challenging but enjoyable experience for runners. The half-marathon race starts at 8:30 a.m., with smaller events like the Kids Dash and various challenges happening throughout the day.
The Kids Dash is new this year and will take place on Saturday afternoon, starting at noon. This event includes two blocks of Spadina Crescent, separated into age groups for younger participants. The course layout ensures safety while providing a fun experience for children aged 12 and under.
Race conditions are typical for early September in Saskatoon with temperatures ranging from the low to mid-60s Fahrenheit, accompanied by a moderate UV index of 3.5. Runners will face slightly firm trails that may be soft due to recent rainfall, but overall they should expect clear skies and comfortable weather.
The race offers various distances including 21K, 10K, 5K, and special challenges like the Saskatoon Challenge or Paris of the Prairies Challenge for those looking to extend their run. Each challenge comes with a second medal, adding an extra incentive for participants who wish to complete multiple races.
