The Stillhouse 100k trail run is an epic journey that challenges even the most seasoned ultra runners with its technical terrain and relentless climbs. This out-and-back route, which doubles as the cult favorite Upchuck 50k point-to-point course, offers a grueling test of endurance on the Cumberland Trail's singletrack. The race starts early at 5 a.m., setting participants off into the rugged wilderness where they'll face steep ascents and descents through Soddy Creek, Possum Creek, and Rock Creek. With nearly 12,000 feet of elevation gain over its course, this is no easy feat; it's designed for runners who are ready to push their limits. Aid stations are strategically placed at Heiss Mountain Road (mile 13/49), Retro Hughes Rd (mile 23/39), and Legget Rd mile 31 turnaround. These stops provide essential supplies like water, Powerade, prepacked chips, gummy bears, ramen, quesadillas, or grilled cheese sandwiches to keep you fueled for the long haul. Participants must bring a hydration pack with at least one liter of water, along with layers and gear suitable for varying weather conditions. A headlamp is required due to the early start time, as are an emergency blanket and appropriate nutrition. Drop bags can be left at Legget Rd (mile 31) turnaround station for additional supplies. Pacers may join runners starting from mile 31 at the Legget Road aid station, providing support throughout the second half of the race. Crew access is available at Heiss Mountain Road outbound (mile 18), Legget Road (mile 31), and Heiss Mountain Road inbound (mile 49). Packet pickup will be held on April 16th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hello Monty on Main Street. This event is not for the faint of heart; it's a serious undertaking that demands preparation, resilience, and a deep love for trail running. If you're looking to take your ultra running career to the next level, the Stillhouse 100k offers just the challenge you need.
