Sweat Bar Fitness 5&5 Splash & Dash at Settlers Cabin Wave Pool & Park

About the Event

What is the Splash and Dash race?
The Splash and Dash race is a multi-sport event that combines swimming and running segments. Participants complete a swim course followed immediately by a run, with the distances varying depending on the specific race category.

Who can participate in the Splash and Dash race?
The race is open to athletes of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to seasoned triathletes. Racers will be put into swim heats based upon their estimated finish times.

What are the distances for the swim and run segments?
500 Meter Swim (10 Lengths in 50 Meter Pool)
5K Trail Run (woods), well-marked course in Settlers Cabin Park.

How many swimmers will swim at one time?
There will be heats starting at 7:30 am with 11 swimmers in lanes. There will be a rolling schedule, when one heat is completely done with the swim there will be time to do a warmup and we will start the next heat.

What are the different events?
Individual: The Athlete will complete both the swim and the run
Relay Team: One athlete will complete the swim and the other will complete the run
5K Trail Run: The Athlete will complete the trail run

What equipment is required?
Participants should have appropriate swimwear, goggles, and running attire.
Swim: We recommend and expect most participants to wear a Tri Suit. They are designed for athletes to be able to swim in, bike in, and then run in without needing to get changed (search Amazon). We will not be biking but these are still the best bet for this type of event. The bathrooms/changing rooms at the wave pool will be open and available for use so you can definitely change prior to the run, but please note that time spent in transition goes towards your overall time.
Run: Running shoes are essential for the run segment. We recommend wearing a part of trail running shoes as you will be running on the wood trails in Settlers cabin park and they can get slippery/muddy.

Are there any special rules or regulations?
Yes, participants must adhere to the following: Transition Area (Green Carpet Area): Competitors must keep their equipment within designated spaces in the transition area.
Conduct: Sportsmanship is mandatory, and unsportsmanlike behavior can result in disqualification.

How is timing managed?
Electronic timing chips will be used to track participants' progress. Each athlete receives a chip to be worn on the ankle, which records split times for both swim & transition and then run segments.

What are the safety measures in place?
Safety is paramount, with lifeguards stationed along the swim course and medical personnel available throughout the event. Additionally, water stations are provided along the run course to ensure participants remain hydrated.

What happens in case of bad weather?
The race organizers closely monitor weather conditions. In case of severe weather, such as thunderstorms or extreme temperatures, the race may be postponed or canceled. Participants will be notified of any changes via email and the official race website. We do not offer refunds for this race. In the event that this race is cancelled due to weather or other issue, participants will be offered a deferment to the following date, year, or alternate event.

Can spectators attend the event?
Spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend. Designated viewing areas are provided along both the swim and run courses, allowing family and friends to support participants throughout the race.

About Pittsburgh

Learn more about the host city, Pittsburgh.

Scenic view of

The pleasure of Pittsburgh remains a well-kept secret. Though not built up by reputation, the city's unique combination of bridges, steep hills, and broad rivers make it one of the most naturally scenic cities in the country. Cheap food and beer abound in this true sports town and the locals are amazingly friendly. A city of about 303,000 (2021) in Allegheny County, at the center of a metro area of about 2.4 million in southwestern Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh is situated at the confluence of three rivers: the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers, which meet to form the Ohio River. The city's unique terrain has resulted in an unusual city design and a hodge-podge of unique neighborhood "pockets" with diverse ethnic and architectural heritage. Pittsburgh has a rich history and, for its size, an unusual array of cultural treasures, largely thanks to the wealth that was generated when Pittsburgh was a hub of industry.
