About the Event

SWIM DERWENT 2027 - A Scenic Splash on Derwent Reservoir
Join the Castle Triathlon Club of Prudhoe and Northumbrian Water for SWIM DERWENT, an exhilarating open water swimming event set to take place at the stunning Derwent Reservoir near Consett on Sunday, July 4th, 2027. This beloved gathering offers a unique opportunity for swimmers of all levels — from beginners dipping their toes into open water to seasoned veterans aiming for new distance goals.
Located in the picturesque North East region, Derwent Reservoir is managed by Northumbrian Water and spans across the Durham–Northumberland border. The reservoir's tranquil waters provide an idyllic backdrop for this memorable swim event. Participants will enjoy a safe and supportive environment with full safety coverage including boats and first aid stations.
Swimmers can choose from various distances to suit their preferences:
- 400m
- Half Mile (approximately 800m)
- One Mile
- Two Miles
- Three Miles
Please note that the exact route for longer swims may vary based on water levels, but all participants will have clear markings and support along the way. Start times are expected to fall between 9:00am and 10:00am, with final timings confirmed closer to the event.
Given the anticipated warm waters in early July, wetsuits are optional for comfort and buoyancy, though they are highly recommended for less experienced swimmers. For those swimming without a wetsuit, a tow float is mandatory.
Timing Up North will provide live chip timing, ensuring accurate results available in real-time as participants cross the finish line. Upon completion of your swim, you'll receive a bespoke event medal and Wild Deer merchandise to commemorate the day. A post-swim snack and drink are also included for all finishers.
Parking at Derwent Waterside Park is available but comes with an entry fee of £3 per vehicle. Participants should be prepared for a 10-15 minute walk from the parking area to the event location.
