Welcome to Wyresdale Park, where nature meets swimming enthusiasts for an unforgettable aquatic adventure. Located near Preston, this picturesque venue offers serene surroundings and a tranquil setting perfect for swimmers of all levels. Upon arrival at the jetty, you will find storage boxes available if needed due to inclement weather conditions. A member of staff will greet each participant, providing necessary instructions and issuing any required equipment such as tow floats, which are compulsory here. Wetsuits can be hired upon prior request for an additional fee of £10 but are not kept on site. During your swim, safety is paramount. If you encounter difficulties in the water, simply lie on your back, raise your arm, and shout for help—a dedicated team of kayakers will promptly assist you. Tow floats also provide a handy support mechanism if needed. The lake offers various swimming opportunities depending on the season. In summer months, swimmers can complete badges such as "My First Swim" or "My First Lap," while winter sees participants earn an "I Swam Through Winter" badge. During these warmer periods, buoys are placed to mark circuits of approximately 400 meters each; completing four circuits equals one mile. Participants should be aware that blue buoys near the shore indicate shallow ground used for fishing and swimming between them can result in entanglement with fishing lines. Facilities at Wyresdale Park include ample parking, accessible via a small bridge leading to an overflow car park. The Applestore Café offers refreshments nearby, along with restrooms located behind it. Additional indoor facilities are available inside the building adjacent to the toilets. To reach Wyresdale Park by car from Preston or Lancaster, detailed directions are provided on their website and social media platforms. Public transport options include Stagecoach bus service 40 from Preston Station, which takes approximately 45 minutes with a stop at Cabus Gubberford Lane.
