The Loch Ness and Glen Affric Gravel Sportive, organized by the vibrant communities of Glen Urquhart and Strathglass, is a grassroots cycling event that promises to immerse participants in the stunning landscapes and warm hospitality of Scotland's Highlands. Profits from this inaugural 2026 edition will be reinvested into local charities and initiatives aimed at enhancing the area’s trail network for cyclists and hikers.
The main route spans approximately 64 miles, featuring a challenging ascent of over 5,800 feet as it winds through scenic glens via gravel tracks and quiet roads. This journey takes riders from Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness's shores to the dramatic landscapes of Glen Affric, including Dog Falls and Tomich. The route offers breathtaking views of vibrant autumn foliage, with participants enjoying the support of local volunteers along the way.
For those seeking a shorter but equally rewarding experience, a 40-mile option is available for the first time in 2026. This route takes cyclists to Cannich, where they can enjoy a food stop known for its welcoming atmosphere and delicious offerings before heading back to Drumnadrochit.
Both routes begin and end at Blairbeg Park in Drumnadrochit, with start times scheduled for 9:30am on the day of the event. Riders are encouraged to adhere to safety guidelines; those not reaching Cannich by noon or Shenval (52 miles) by 4pm will be redirected along a shorter route back to the finish line.
Refreshment stops at 20 and 45 miles provide essential sustenance, with additional food available for purchase upon completion of either course. Participants can also look forward to guidance on transport, accommodation, and route planning from Drumnadrochit’s cycling and walking Hub, ensuring a seamless experience throughout the event.
