Step into the heart of nature at the Hilton Falls Conservation Area for one of our most beloved races, The Beav. Known for its diverse and challenging terrain, this course is a must-run for both seasoned athletes and newcomers alike. The 25k loop promises an exhilarating journey through some of the best trails in the area. Initially fast and groomed, it intersperses with short but technically demanding sections that will test your skills. The race route varies each year due to unpredictable weather conditions – from snowy winters to windy spring days or even a beaver-built dam flood! In 2022, participants enjoyed sunny skies at a comfortable temperature of 15 degrees Celsius. From approximately the 8km mark through to about the 16km point, runners will venture onto Halton Region property. The Britton Tract and Robertson Tract offer some of the fastest runnable sections but also introduce variety with their unique landscapes. All participants in both the 25k and 50k races must sign an additional waiver upon picking up race kits. For a detailed map, visit this link: [Map Link]. Alternatively, download the GPX file for precise navigation: [GPX File]. The 10km event is an out-and-back course that begins at the reservoir. Runners will traverse groomed trails leading to the waterfall, where they'll experience rugged and technical terrain on the Bruce Trail before reaching the falls. A small pin with The Beav Trail Race logo awaits those who dare to descend a set of stairs to the base of the fall. The 25k race follows the same initial route but continues onto the Beaver Dam Trail for its second half, which inspired the event’s name. This section includes a mix of single and double track sections with additional technical challenges before returning towards the finish line. For those aiming to complete two laps, the 50km course is essentially twice the 25k distance. With a strict 9-hour cutoff time, it's advisable for slower runners to bring a headlamp or flashlight due to early evening darkness and quick sunset times during this season. Aid stations are strategically placed along both courses: - For the 10k: A drink and s'mores station at 5km - For the 25k and 50k: Stations at 5km, 8km (full), 17km (full), and 20km Standard race staples include water, electrolyte drinks, PB & J sandwiches, sweet and salty snacks. All runners must use a collapsible cup or bottle to collect fluids from the aid stations. Pacers are not permitted in any of our events due to safety reasons; however, participants over 65 can request one if needed by contacting the Race Director before registration. Upon finishing, all racers will receive a custom finisher’s medal. The top three in each distance category will be awarded prizes. After the race, stay warm with a complimentary hoodie for both 25k and 50k participants (design subject to change). T-shirt upgrades are available during registration for the 10km event. Post-race food is not included due to dietary restrictions and preferences varying among runners. Photos from previous events can be viewed courtesy of Sue Sitki Photography, who captures these moments beautifully. Happy Trails Racing offers a generous refund policy: early bird pricing applies up until 30 days before the race, after which you can still cancel with a 100% credit for future races without expiration dates. Bib transfers are permitted up to five days prior to the event at no additional cost. For more information or to register, visit our official website.
