Welcome to the Fitnessat58° Cairngorms Trail Marathon, set for Sunday, September 20th, 2026. This brand-new addition to our lineup of events offers runners an unforgettable adventure through one of Scotland's most stunning landscapes – the Cairngorms National Park. ### Event Details: - Distance: 26.2 miles (trail shoes recommended) - Terrain: The course is composed of approximately 80% trail and 20% road, offering a mix that challenges both your stamina and agility.
The marathon starts at the market stance in Kingussie, where you'll be greeted by the sounds of a local piper. After an initial short stretch on pavement, runners will transition to the scenic Kingussie cycle path before crossing Tromie Bridge. From there, the trail takes you through some of Scotland's most breathtaking scenery – dense forests, mountain vistas, and river crossings that make for both a visually stunning and physically demanding course. The route loops back towards Kingussie where finishers can expect an enthusiastic welcome from race organizers and fellow runners alike. Crossing the finishing line will be met with high-fives, medals, and refreshments to help you celebrate your achievement in style. ### Course Highlights: - Mountain Views: Expect dramatic vistas of rolling hills and towering peaks. - Forest Trails: Navigate through dense woods where nature's beauty is at its finest. - River Crossings: Feel the rush as you cross over rushing streams, adding an extra layer of excitement to your run. This event isn't just about reaching the finish line; it’s about immersing yourself in the natural splendor and community spirit that define Scottish trail running. We recommend this challenge for those who have completed at least a half marathon and are ready for something more demanding both mentally and physically. There will be no cut-off times, but proper preparation is key to enjoying every moment. ### Event Logistics: - Start Location/Registration: The Crossing in Kingussie, opposite the railway station. - Car Parking Options: Available at multiple locations including The Crossing, Kingussie Railway Station, Kingussie Church, and The Market Stance.

About Inverness-shire
Learn more about the host city, Inverness-shire.
Inverness-shire, or the County of Inverness, is a historic county in Scotland. It is named after Inverness, its largest settlement, which was also the county town. Covering much of the Highlands and some of the Hebrides, it is Scotland's largest county by land area. It is generally rural and sparsely populated, containing only three towns which held burgh status, being Inverness, Fort William and Kingussie. The county is crossed by the Great Glen, which contains Loch Ness and separates the Grampian Mountains to the south-east from the Northwest Highlands. The county also includes Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in both Scotland and the United Kingdom.
