Christmas Spirit Run 2026: A Festive Journey Through Chelmsford
Join us for an unforgettable festive adventure on December 17, 2026! The Christmas Spirit Run is more than just a race; it's a celebration of the season with a twist. This fun-filled event invites runners to embrace the holiday spirit while enjoying unique challenges and treats along the way.
The route takes you through Chelmsford’s charming streets, starting in the basement of the Voodoo Keller Bar before ascending into the heart of the city. The course is designed for all levels of fitness, with a mix of flat terrain and gentle inclines that will keep runners engaged without being overly strenuous. Participants can download the GPX/Strava file or follow the detailed route narrative available on Strava to ensure they stay on track.
The race begins at 12:30 PM sharp after registration inside Voodoo Keller Bar from noon onwards, where you'll climb up a set of stairs and out into the main part of Chelmsford. Along the way, runners will pass through various checkpoints that add an element of fun to the run.
At Checkpoint One, located in the tap room within the brewery, participants are greeted by friendly marshals who provide them with beer tokens as they cross off their names on a list. This is your cue to head over to the bar and indulge in a pint or glass of wine (or opt for a soft drink if you prefer). The real challenge here comes from balancing speed and leisure: fast runners may find themselves enjoying a relaxed pace, while slower runners will need to keep an eye out for when they should start moving again once their fellow competitors have finished.
As the run concludes at Voodoo Keller Bar—carefully navigating down steps to reach the finish line—you'll be greeted by another round of festive cheer. Collect your well-deserved Christmas-themed medal and head straight back to the bar, where you can claim a complimentary drink that includes spirits if desired. To ensure everyone stays safe during their run, it’s important to bring along your mobile phone with ICE details as part of compulsory equipment.
The event is open exclusively to those aged 18 and over due to the presence of alcohol at checkpoints. Non-TRA/England Athletics affiliated club members will be required to pay a £2 levy upon registration.
Transport options are plentiful, including buses, trains, bicycles, scooters, or walking routes all within easy reach of Voodoo Keller Bar. Local car parks offer convenient parking spots just minutes away from the start and finish line.
