Experience the ultimate test of endurance and determination on the Devil's Trail, an unparalleled trail running adventure sanctioned by Athletics Ontario. This year, La Sportiva joins forces with Happy Trails Racing to offer participants not only a chance to try their shoes but also the exciting opportunity to win two pairs in giveaways. The Devil's Trail is no ordinary race; it demands top-tier preparation and mental fortitude. With multiple steep climbs reaching heights of nearly 1000 feet each, runners will ascend the hills of Pretty River Valley Provincial Park up to the highest point on the Bruce Trail (66.6km event). The course also includes a challenging climb to Devil's Glen Ski Hill and crawling through the notorious "keyhole" trail. The entire race is set along the legendary 900km long Bruce Trail, with some sections featuring blue-blazed side trails for added variety. This route showcases breathtaking views of Mad River and the unique landmarks that make this course a memorable journey. The cut-off time of 12 hours (5.12 km/h) ensures participants will face both daylight and darkness during their run. Expect intense climbs, including four major ascents with nearly 6000 feet cumulative elevation gain. Descents are equally treacherous, known for causing discomfort and even the loss of toenails post-race due to their steep nature. The weather can be unpredictable, so runners should prepare for hot conditions and possible insect encounters. Aid stations will provide essential support with electrolyte drinks, snacks, and encouraging volunteers every 10km or less, ensuring participants stay hydrated and energized throughout the race. However, carrying a collapsible cup is necessary as there are no disposable cups available at aid points. Participants receive a Skeleton Key that must be shown during the course; losing it means disqualification. The event also offers a range of swag including a softspun unisex or women's cut race shirt, and a finisher medal with an impressive design, all courtesy of Sue Sitki’s photography skills. The Devil's Trail is not just about running; it's about conquering nature in its rawest form. Register now for the 66.6km course that promises to be both heaven and hell on wheels!
