The Drop - Chester

The Drop is an intense and unpredictable navigation challenge that pushes participants into uncharted territory with no maps, directions, or reassurance. The essence of the race lies in its simplicity: you are dropped at an unknown location miles away from the finish line and must find your way back to the event centre using only your wits.
Participants can choose between three distinct challenges:
The Drop 6 is a shorter distance option open exclusively to non-locals, ensuring that everyone faces the same level of uncertainty. Participants start just six miles (as the crow flies) from the finish line but must navigate without any local knowledge or shortcuts. This version caters specifically to those unfamiliar with the area and first-time participants traveling from afar.
The Drop 10 and The Drop 15 are both full challenges, where runners are dropped at distances of ten and fifteen miles (respectively), as measured in a straight line but must cover significantly more ground due to navigating terrain. Both versions require self-reliance, with no maps or GPS allowed throughout the race.
Upon registration, all electronic devices, watches, and navigation aids are handed over in exchange for your race number and an emergency bag that you carry at all times during the event. The deployment phase involves boarding a bus blindfolded; once off the bus, participants remove their blindfolds to begin their journey back under strict rules.
The challenge is not just about physical endurance but also mental fortitude as runners must make decisions without any guidance or support. Each step taken after leaving the drop-off point is entirely up to you — run, walk, crawl, whatever it takes to get home safely and within time limits set by organizers.
Safety measures include live GPS tracking provided for participants' safety protocols. This system allows friends and family to follow your progress via a password-protected link sent before race day. While the accuracy of these trackers is generally high (within 5 meters), placement plays a crucial role in maintaining signal strength, especially when traversing areas with tall buildings or poor satellite reception.
