The Drop - Skipton

About the Event

The Drop is an unconventional navigation challenge that strips away all familiar elements of racing. Unlike typical events with clear routes, markers, and directions, The Drop plunges participants into uncertainty where every decision counts.
Upon registration, runners must surrender their electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids in exchange for a race number and a sealed emergency bag to carry throughout the event. Participants are then blindfolded and transported by bus to an undisclosed location—10 or 15 miles away from the event center for The Drop challenge—and dropped off with no maps, GPS, or guidance.
The core experience offers two distances: The 15-mile option is the original and most challenging version of the race. It extends decision-making processes over a longer distance while pushing participants to their limits in terms of stamina and mental fortitude. The 10-mile variant delivers a similar level of pressure but within a shorter, more intense timeframe.
For those traveling from outside the area or unfamiliar with local geography, there's also The Drop 6—a six-mile challenge designed specifically for non-locals to ensure fairness by removing any home-field advantage based on prior knowledge. Local participants are encouraged to opt for the longer distances instead.
Once deployed and blindfolded, runners must navigate their way back to the event center entirely on their own once the blindfolds come off. The journey is fraught with uncertainty; no maps or compasses are allowed, leaving each participant solely responsible for finding their path home under any conditions.
The rules of engagement are strict: GPS devices can only record activity if sealed inside the emergency bag provided at registration. Any unauthorized use of navigational aids or breaking the seal on this bag results in disqualification. Participants must also adhere to foot travel alone, with no shortcuts permitted—adding an extra layer of challenge and commitment.
Live GPS tracking is available as a paid option for those who wish to share their journey in real-time with friends and family via a unique password sent ahead of the event. This feature not only enhances spectator engagement but also serves as a safety measure for participants, allowing organizers access to additional support features if needed.
The Drop invites runners to embrace the unknown and test their ability to stay calm under pressure when certainty disappears. Whether choosing between 6, 10, or 15 miles, each participant faces the same fundamental question: Can you find your way home?
Join us for an unforgettable experience that pushes boundaries both physically and mentally, challenging every runner to navigate through uncertainty with only their wits and determination guiding them back to safety.
