Challenge yourself against the stunning backdrop of Druridge Bay Country Park at the GEORDIEMAN 140.6 & 70.3 triathlon events on August 22, 2027. This endurance race offers a variety of distances to suit all levels and experiences: Full Distance Triathlon (140.6 miles), Half Distance Triathlon (70.3 miles), Aquabike races for both full and half lengths, Duathlon (5K Run, 56-mile Cycle, 13.1 mile Run) and an open water swim-only option in Ladyburn Lake. The Full Distance event features a 2.4-mile swim across the calm waters of Ladyburn Lake followed by a grueling yet scenic 112-mile bike ride along coastal roads before concluding with a challenging 26.2 mile run around picturesque nature trails and beachfront paths. The Half Distance offers half these distances, still providing an exhilarating test for athletes. The Aquabike events consist of the swim portion followed by cycling only, while the Duathlon combines running and cycling in equal measure to create a unique challenge that tests both endurance and speed on two different terrains. Participants will also have the option to compete as part of relay teams or simply enjoy an open water swim. The race day starts early with full distance triathletes beginning at 6:30 am, followed by half-distance athletes starting just ten minutes later at 6:50 am. Open water swimmers can join in from 8:30 am. The event is set within the serene beauty of Druridge Bay Country Park, featuring a pristine lake and miles of unspoiled coastline. The park’s nature trails provide scenic running routes that wind through lush greenery while coastal roads offer cyclists flat terrain with breathtaking views. Race day amenities include live chip timing by Timing Up North, secure transition areas for bike storage, and well-stocked feed stations along both the biking and running courses offering a range of nutrition options from VOOM Pocket Rockets to fresh fruit. Finishers will receive medals, event hoodies or t-shirts (depending on their discipline), catered hot food post-race, unlimited snacks and drinks during the course, as well as access to professional race photography. Camping is available for those who wish to stay overnight near the venue at a cost of £15 per person per night. Parking can be paid for via machines or PayByPhone app upon arrival. Registration takes place on Saturday from 3 pm until 7 pm and Sunday morning starting at 5 am, with bike racking beginning early in the day as well. All participants will receive detailed race information through email leading up to the event along with their bib numbers. Prizes are awarded for top male and female finishers across all disciplines including triathlon, duathlon, aquabike, and open water swim events. Age group winners also get recognized on the podium during award ceremonies scheduled at 1 pm and 6:30 pm respectively.
