Immerse yourself in the serene beauty of Brant Lake with the Great Brant Lake Canoe Race, an exhilarating 6-mile adventure set against the stunning backdrop of the Adirondacks. Scheduled for August 8th, 2026, this race promises a memorable journey through picturesque waters and tranquil landscapes. The event kicks off at Hoyt's Beach on Palisades Road in Horicon, NY, with paddlers setting out from the north end of Brant Lake. The route winds down the lake’s scenic shoreline before entering a channel leading to Mill Pond near the finish line at the Horicon Community Center beach. Waves begin promptly at 10:00 AM for solo kayaks and canoes, followed by tandem craft and SUP enthusiasts shortly after. Participants are divided into waves based on their boat type, ensuring an organized and enjoyable experience for all competitors. Solo paddlers will lead off at 10:00 AM, closely followed by a wave of other categories including guideboats and stand-up paddleboards starting five minutes later. Tandem canoes and kayaks join the fun in the third wave. Pre-race activities include packet pickup opportunities on August 7th from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Food Truck Friday, or alternatively, packets will be available for collection on race day between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM. A crucial paddler meeting is scheduled at the start line at 9:30 AM before the first wave sets off. To ensure a smooth experience, participants are advised to park near the finish area in Horicon Town Beach and use shuttles provided by Camp Read until 9:00 am for transport to Hoyt's Beach. Designated parking spots include areas across from the Hilton Family Farmstand on Route 8 for those choosing to leave their vehicles at the start. Safety is paramount, with all participants required to wear Coast Guard-approved flotation devices and adhere strictly to rules prohibiting drugs and alcohol before or during the race. The awards ceremony will cap off a day of camaraderie and competition from noon until 12:30 PM at the Horicon Community Center. The Great Brant Lake Canoe Race not only offers an opportunity for athletic challenge but also supports important causes, with proceeds benefiting the Bob and Gert Newton Campership Fund and The Northern Forest Canoe Trail.
