Embark on an epic self-supported bikepacking adventure through the heart of England's South East region with The Great British Escapade North and South Downs. Now celebrating its tenth edition, this challenging yet rewarding journey invites both newcomers to the sport and seasoned veterans alike.
Set for Thursday, June 3rd, 2027 at 17:00hrs in Canterbury, participants will traverse a meticulously crafted route that spans over three days with an official completion deadline by Sunday evening. The course is designed primarily for mountain bikes or gravel bikes equipped with approximately 50mm tires, offering riders the opportunity to explore some of England's most scenic landscapes.
The ride covers a total distance of 480 kilometers and includes a formidable elevation gain of 8,500 meters, making it an excellent test of endurance. Approximately 65% of the route is off-road, weaving through rugged terrain that will challenge even the hardiest cyclists. Despite its demanding nature, riders are never far from civilization, ensuring safety and support along the way.
Two crucial checkpoints await at Farncombe and Alfriston on the South Downs Way, providing essential rest stops and opportunities to recharge before continuing onward towards the finish line in Canterbury. Participants will receive full GPX files of the route two weeks prior to the event start date, allowing ample time for planning and preparation.
Entry into The Great British Escapade costs £90 per individual participant, with an additional mandatory fee of £25 for a tracker rental that enables live tracking throughout the journey.
