The Crack (60 km) is perfect for those looking to sample the terrain without committing to a full day in the saddle. It features stretches of black sand gravel and scenic vistas across lava fields, providing an intense yet manageable ride that still captures the essence of Iceland's raw beauty.
For riders wanting more distance under their wheels, the Crevasse (140 km) offers a longer adventure through varied landscapes including river crossings and steep climbs over rugged terrain. This route is designed to test endurance while showcasing the dramatic scenery of the highlands.
The iconic Rift (200 km), as its name suggests, delves deeper into Iceland's volcanic heartland with more challenging ascents and descents along twisting roads that wind through lava fields and across rivers. Cyclists will traverse vast open spaces dotted with geothermal activity, making this a true endurance test.
Finally, the Abyss (330 km) is an unsupported ultra-distance event for those who seek an ultimate challenge. The rolling start format ensures a smooth beginning with cyclists following traffic laws and maintaining safe distances from lead-out vehicles until they reach open roads. Checkpoint cut-off times are strictly enforced to ensure rider safety, based on an average speed requirement of 9 mph for arrival at various points throughout the event.
