The Skyline Scramble offers endurance runners an exhilarating challenge through the wooded trails of Topeka’s Skyline Park. This annual event features 3-hour, 6-hour, and 12-hour solo races as well as a thrilling team relay option for those who prefer to tackle the course in groups. Runners will traverse a rugged single-loop track that stretches over 2.15 miles, winding through rocky terrain, dense roots, and elevated boardwalks. Each loop ascends approximately 250 feet, providing panoramic views of Topeka's skyline from Burnett’s Mound—the site where the devastating tornado struck in 1966. Participants aim to complete as many loops as possible within their designated time frame: three hours for the shorter race, six hours for a more extended challenge, or twelve grueling hours for those seeking an extreme test of endurance. The winner is determined by who completes the most full laps before the timer runs out. For teams competing in the 12-hour relay event, each member must complete at least one loop to avoid disqualification. Relay captains can manage their team's registration and logistics through UltraSignup’s online platform, ensuring a seamless experience for all participants. The Skyline Scramble also includes a fun-filled kids race designed specifically for children aged K-8th grade. This 2.15-mile course offers young runners the opportunity to explore the scenic trails while competing in age-appropriate divisions and enjoying special awards upon completion. Registration closes on March 4, 2027, with early packet pickup available at Fleet Feet Topeka from March 5-6. Race day check-in begins promptly at 5:45 AM for all participants who must be fully registered by 6:45 AM to start the race on time. Parking is provided near the event site, with closer spots reserved exclusively for 12-hour runners and their support teams. All competitors are encouraged to respect the course environment by adhering to strict rules against littering or cutting trails. The Skyline Scramble promises an unforgettable experience for all participants, featuring breathtaking scenery, challenging terrain, and a vibrant racing community united in pursuit of personal bests and shared milestones. All runners will receive finisher awards along with race t-shirts. Top male and female finishers across the 3-hour, 6-hour, and 12-hour races are recognized for their achievements. The winning relay team also earns special recognition. The event is organized by Shawnee County Parks + Recreation in collaboration with the Top City Trails Alliance to ensure a well-maintained course that remains open to the public during race hours. Participants and crew members must adhere strictly to rules regarding littering, trail integrity, and support roles. Join us for an unforgettable day of running through Topeka's stunning landscapes at Skyline Scramble!
