The Angostura Triathlon offers an unparalleled experience amidst the natural beauty of South Dakota's Black Hills. Nestled south of Hot Springs at the picturesque Angostura Recreation Area, this event immerses participants in a serene setting with pristine sandy beaches and rolling landscapes that enhance every leg of the race. Begin your journey on the swim course where you'll glide into Breakers Beach, part of Angostura State Recreation Area. The transition area for packet pick-up is conveniently located here as well. As you move onto the bike route, pedal through the surrounding ranch lands, enjoying a varied and scenic terrain that showcases the region's rugged charm. The run portion takes runners along the shores of the lake, offering breathtaking views at every turn. This course not only challenges but also rewards with its stunning vistas and tranquil atmosphere. On race day, you'll be treated to delicious grilled cheese sandwiches courtesy of our new Blackstone grill setup—offered exclusively to all finishers as a thank-you for your participation. Additional food and beverage options will ensure that everyone stays fueled throughout the event. Don't miss out on securing your complimentary race t-shirt by signing up early; medals await both youth and adult participants, with special awards for first-place finishes in various categories including overall winners at Olympic and Sprint distances. This triathlon is a collaboration between several local entities: South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks, the Angostura State Recreation Area, and the Friends of the Library in Hot Springs. Their support ensures an event that not only celebrates athleticism but also contributes to the community's well-being. We look forward to welcoming you for what promises to be a memorable day filled with natural beauty, friendly competition, and great camaraderie among fellow athletes.
