The View Trail Race

The View Trail Race returns to North Bend, Pennsylvania on November 7th, inviting runners for another year of challenging terrain and scenic trails along the Hyner Challenge route. This sixth-year event offers a choice between two distances: a rigorous 25K that bypasses Johnson Run but retains its signature challenge, and a more accessible 15K option that reaches the View before splitting from the main course at mile 5.5 to follow the Huff Run Trail back.
Race morning in North Bend typically greets participants with crisp autumn air as they gather on Sportsman's Lane for pre-race preparations. The trail conditions are firm and slightly soft, providing a mix of well-trodden paths through dense forest and open stretches that highlight Pennsylvania’s fall foliage at its peak. The race follows a variety of trails including The View, Post Draft, SOB, and Huff Run Trail, offering diverse terrain that includes significant elevation changes. Starting at 161 Sportsman's Lane in North Bend, participants will face a total ascent exceeding three thousand feet over the course of fifteen miles for those choosing the 25K route or five miles plus return on the shorter option. Aid stations are strategically placed along both routes to assist runners as they navigate through Johnson Run and beyond.
Weather conditions during November often feature firm trail surfaces with UV index levels considered low, ensuring that participants can enjoy clear views without risk of sunburn despite cooler temperatures typically ranging between 40°F (5°C) and 68°F (20°C).
