The Toonerville Trail Turkey Trot 5K welcomes runners to Springfield, VT on Thursday, November 26, 2026 at 9 a.m. This flat and scenic out-and-back course follows the Black River along the Toonerville Trail, offering picturesque views of autumn foliage and crisp Vermont air. Participants can expect a friendly atmosphere with water, electrolyte drinks, and light snacks like Wellwood Orchard cider donuts available post-run. Registration is $25 online until November 25 at 11:59 p.m. EST or $30 on race day. Packet pick-up occurs the evening before from 3-5 p.m. and again starting at 7:45 a.m. on race morning. Runners who bring canned goods for local food banks will receive entry into a drawing to win an exquisite wreath crafted by the Weathersfield Garden Club. The event features prizes for first place male and female overall winners, as well as age group awards. A best costume contest adds another layer of fun with creative turkey-themed attire encouraged but not required. Participants can also register virtually to support local food banks without attending in person. Plenty of parking is available at the trailhead near Image Tek Labels and United Construction & Forestry, though carpooling is recommended. With chilly temperatures likely, runners are advised to dress warmly for this Thanksgiving tradition.
