VTYC Race #1: Ascutney Outdoors and Ascutney Trails
About the Event
Join us on Saturday, August 22, for the opening race of Vermont Youth Cycling's 2026 season at Ascutney Outdoors + Ascutney Trails. This course promises an exhilarating experience with its varied terrain featuring smooth descents and challenging climbs. Expect a mix of single-track and double-track paths that offer ample opportunities to pass fellow competitors. Camping is available on-site for Friday night, providing the perfect setting for pre-race festivities. Members of VTYC can register free by using the honor system along with the coupon code "ASCUTNEYMEMBER26." Non-members are encouraged to join the league and enjoy a season full of races and benefits or opt for a one-time entry fee of $50. Parents, contribute to the event's lively atmosphere by bringing tents, chairs, and food for your young racers. Remember to pack out any trash you generate, as portable toilets will be available on-site. Food vendors from Brownsville Butcher and Pantry offer burgers and hot dogs, with proceeds going towards VTYC scholarships. The race schedule begins early, allowing ample time for pre-riding before the first event kicks off at 10:00 AM. The Cat C and C+ races start promptly, followed by the Junior Race at 10:15 AM. Pre-riders from Cat A and B categories are welcome to explore the course starting at 10:45 AM. By approximately 11:00 AM, expect a celebration with podiums for the Cat C, Junior, and first-time racers. The Cat B race commences shortly after, concluding by noon when the Cat A riders set off. Final awards ceremonies will take place around 1:30 PM, recognizing top five finishers in each category. A pre-ride session is open from 8:30 to 9:45 AM on Saturday morning for those eager to familiarize themselves with the course before race day starts. Volunteers are needed to ensure a smooth event; sign up if you can lend a hand. Independent racers and teams alike are welcome, making this an inclusive experience for all. If your young ones below fifth grade love racing, bring them along as well—there will be plenty of exciting races to watch! Start early, stay until the end, and get ready for an unforgettable day at Ascutney Outdoors + Ascutney Trails!
