The Wandering Wintertime Wobble invites you to explore the breathtaking landscapes of South Shropshire on December 19, 2026. Starting at Norbury Village Hall (SY9 5DX), this unique and challenging circular walk covers a distance of approximately 21 miles through some of England’s most stunning countryside. The route weaves its way across the Long Mynd, Bishops Castle, Heath Mynd, and Linley Hill, offering walkers an unforgettable journey filled with diverse terrain and panoramic views. With around 4,100 feet of ascent, this event is designed to test your endurance while immersing you in the beauty of Shropshire's winter landscape. Registration opens at Norbury Village Hall from 7:00 AM on race day, where hot drinks and toast will be available to help warm up before setting off. A detailed route description can be downloaded online starting November 1st, or collected upon request during registration. This guide is essential for navigating the course safely and enjoying its highlights. Participants must adhere strictly to the designated path as parts of the route traverse private land with special permissions granted only on event day. Please respect these guidelines to ensure continued access in future years. Two checkpoints along the way will provide basic refreshments, but those with specific dietary needs are advised to bring their own provisions or arrange for them at the checkpoints ahead of time. A hot meal and a certificate await you upon completion, alongside warm drinks and a chance to reflect on your achievement. All participants must be over 18 years old and dogs are not permitted due to safety concerns related to private land access. It is crucial that each walker carries essential equipment such as walking boots or event/fell running shoes with sturdy soles, protective clothing suitable for varying weather conditions, a compass, and both OS Explorer Sheets (216 and 217) which cover the route. While this event comes with necessary rules to ensure safety and respect for private landowners, it is ultimately about enjoying an incredible day out in Shropshire’s winter wonderland. Bring your sense of adventure and prepare yourself for a memorable experience on one of Britain's most scenic routes. Please remember to bring along a mug as no cups will be provided at the checkpoints.
