Where Da Gold At? Backyard Ultra

March 13–14 marks the return of "Where Da Gold At?" Backyard Ultra, an epic endurance challenge set amidst the serene woods of Jacinto Port Trail System near Saraland, Alabama. This unique race is not just a test of physical prowess but also a mental showdown that takes place every hour on the hour.
Runners will face 4.1667-mile loops around the picturesque and challenging trail system. The course, while flat, offers runners a mix of fast sections for quick miles and technical terrain to slow them down. As night falls, the atmosphere shifts from serene to eerie as competitors push through darkness toward victory or elimination.
Each hour, participants must complete their loop within 60 minutes; those who finish early receive a short respite before starting again when the whistle blows at the top of every hour. Should you fail to be inside the starting area by then, your race is over regardless of how close you are. This relentless pace continues until only one runner remains.
The event promises more than just competition with its distinctive prize offerings inspired by local lore:
- Half Marathon (4 Loops): Finish four loops and earn an official finisher medal.
- Marathon (7 Loops): Cross the 26.2-mile mark to secure a premium T-shirt.
- 50-Mile Mark (12 Loops): Survive until midnight on race day for a heavy, custom Gold Coin.
- 100-Mile Club (24 Loops): Endure through two full days and nights for an Amateur Sketch Belt Buckle.
- Last Man Standing: The ultimate prize goes to the final competitor standing: the Coveted Leprechaun Flute.
Support crews can set up a 10x10 tent at basecamp, providing space for gear storage and crew rest. Basecamp itself offers all the essentials—pizza, pickles, candy, trail mix, hot meals, water, pickle juice, sodas, and Tailwind—to keep runners fueled throughout their journey.
Registration is limited to just 75 participants due to parking constraints at this pristine location in Mobile’s backyard. With a theme steeped in local legend and lore, "Where Da Gold At?" Backyard Ultra promises an unforgettable adventure for those daring enough to take on its challenges.
