The White Horse Gallop, an exhilarating 12K off-road adventure through the picturesque landscapes of Wiltshire, invites runners to experience the beauty and challenge of bridle paths winding along the Imber Range. This year marks the race's thirteenth edition since its inception in 2010 by Stampede Sports, now under new management for a second consecutive year.
As part of the Wiltshire Off Road Race League, this event promises not only breathtaking scenery but also competitive excitement with age category awards and bespoke medals for all finishers. The race route offers runners an intimate encounter with the majestic Westbury White Horse, providing both inspiration and awe along the challenging terrain.
Participants will start at Leighton Recreation Centre on Wellhead Lane in Westbury before embarking on a journey that tests endurance across varied landscapes and elevations. Two water stations are strategically placed to ensure hydration during this demanding course, while first aid coverage is available for any unforeseen medical needs. The race begins promptly at 10:30 AM following a mandatory safety briefing.
Registration opens from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on the day of the event, allowing runners ample time to collect their numbers and prepare for the start line. Race fees are £23 for affiliated athletes and £25 for unattached competitors. Parking is limited at Leighton Recreation Centre with additional options available nearby via pay-and-display parking along Warminster Road.
Runners must adhere to certain guidelines: participants should be over 16 years old on race day, no headphones during the run are permitted to ensure safety awareness, and dogs are not allowed for everyone's protection. With a maximum capacity of 200 runners, early registration is recommended to secure your spot in this unique running experience.
