The Willapa Trail Festival returns to Chehalis, Washington on November 7th, offering a diverse set of distances for runners seeking both challenge and scenic beauty along the flat trails of southwest Washington.
Starting at Owl and Olive Cafe in Chehalis, this event is known for its exceptionally flat terrain and wide double-track path that follows an old rail grade. Runners can expect to traverse through rolling hills and riverbanks with views of the Willapa Hills State Park Trail and the upper reaches of the Chehalis River. The course follows a flat, wide double-track path along an old rail grade that traverses through scenic southwest Washington from Chehalis to Raymond, ending in South Bend along the Willapa River and Bay. From the start at Owl and Olive Cafe on State Route 6, runners will head east following the trail until reaching their designated turnaround points before heading back west towards the finish line.
Weather conditions for early November tend to be cool with firm but slightly soft trails underfoot due to recent rains or dry periods. UV index is typically low during this time of year, making it comfortable and safe for outdoor activities like running without excessive sun exposure risks.
The Willapa Trail Festival offers a variety of distances including the 100 Miler at 160.9K, the 50 Miler at 80.5K, the 50K race covering exactly that distance, and shorter options such as the 25K and the ever-popular 5K for those looking to enjoy a more moderate challenge.

Packet pickup will be available starting at 6:00 AM Saturday morning at Owl and Olive Cafe located along State Route 6, where all runners need to collect their bib numbers before the start time. Bib collection is mandatory for race entry. On Sunday morning races begin with early starts for longer distances followed by a final wave of the 5K run commencing at 10:00 AM.
The event concludes on November 7th after sunset when all runners must complete their respective courses and return to Owl and Olive Cafe, ensuring everyone finishes safely within set time limits.
