Windy Hill Fell Race

Embark on an exhilarating winter adventure through the rugged beauty of Saddleworth, starting at the historic Rams Head Inn. This challenging race takes runners from the heart of Denshaw up to Hollingworth Lake and beyond, tracing a winding path that ascends to Blackstone Edge before traversing high moorland along the Pennine Way.
The route leads you through varied terrain, culminating in a climb to Windy Hill's mast where panoramic views await. From there, it’s down into the Ogden Valley before one last push up towards your finish at the Rams Head Inn, where hot soup will be waiting for all participants who complete this 12-mile journey with over 2,000 feet of elevation gain.
Given the winter conditions, full Fell Running Association (FRA) kit is mandatory to ensure safety and comfort throughout the race. Along the way, some checkpoints offer water and snacks to keep you fueled during your trek across the challenging terrain.
Registration opens at 9am on February 21, 2027, with a start time of 10am from the Rams Head Inn located on Ripponden Road in Denshaw. Participants must be at least 17 years old to take part in this event that promises both physical and scenic rewards.
