Step into the rich tapestry of Scottish history with the William Wallace Ultra, a 50km journey that weaves through some of Scotland’s most iconic battlefields and landmarks. This epic race invites runners to trace the path of freedom fighters on mixed terrain, from rolling hills to serene riversides. The route begins near the towering Wallace Monument under the shadow of the Ochil Hills, setting an awe-inspiring stage for your adventure. You’ll wind through historical sites like the Battle of Bannockburn and Kings Park, a former royal hunting ground that echoes with tales of regal hunts and courtly life. The course then takes you past ancient gardens at Kings Knott before scaling up to Stirling Castle overlooking the River Forth. As you continue your journey, you’ll pass Kier Estate—the home of Sir David Stirling, founder of the SAS—adding a layer of modern military history to this historical odyssey. Through the market village of Bridge of Allan and up towards Cockburn Reservoir, runners will face both elevation gains and scenic vistas before descending back through Cambuskenneth Abbey and along the riverside path to complete your loop. Adequate cut-off times at key checkpoints ensure a dynamic race experience with plenty of support from aid stations. These points are strategically placed every 10km or so to keep you fueled with snacks, hydration, and encouragement throughout this challenging yet rewarding course. Upon crossing the finish line, participants will receive a commemorative medal and race t-shirt as well as live GPS tracking updates for friends and family following your progress online. The event concludes with post-race catering amidst festival vibes that celebrate both runners’ achievements and Scotland’s storied past. Registration is available on Friday evening or early Saturday morning at Stirling Cricket Club, where you’ll pick up essential race information including mandatory kit requirements tailored to the unpredictable Scottish October weather. Participants must be 18 years old and in good health; all entrants participate at their own risk. For those seeking additional challenges, consider joining the William Wallace 70km Ultra or exploring shorter distances like the Braveheart 10km and Wallace Warriors Fun Run. The William Wallace Running Festival Team is excited to welcome you to this historic field of battle. Together, we’ll forge unforgettable memories that blend physical challenge with rich historical immersion.
