The Great Barrow Challenge invites runners of all levels to explore Suffolk's diverse landscapes through its unique 10-day series at the Suffolk Running Centre, located on Church Road in Bury St Edmunds. This individual day entry allows participants to choose their distance and pace for each event. On Day Four, the route takes you along Back Quack, a scenic loop that combines both road and trail running, offering runners an engaging mix of terrain. The 10.7-kilometer course features a 52% asphalt section and 48% off-road trails, with a total elevation gain of 107 meters over its high point at 91 meters and low point at 49 meters. Participants can opt for various distances: - A single loop completes the 10k distance. - Two loops cover half marathon length. - Four laps make up the full marathon route. - Ultra runners have two options: completing four laps plus a 5k extension or running five complete loops, adding an extra challenge to their journey. The event offers bespoke medals for each day's completion and includes parking at no additional cost. Water stations are available along the course to keep you hydrated as you navigate through Back Quack’s varied terrain. Please note that this route does not allow dogs or buggies due to traffic considerations, ensuring a safe environment for runners only. Headphones are restricted except for bone conduction devices, allowing participants to remain aware of their surroundings on open roads. For those interested in virtual participation, the Zig Zag Running website provides an option to enter and complete your chosen distance from anywhere around the world. This event promises not just a physical challenge but also an immersive experience through Suffolk's picturesque countryside.
