2026 Great Columbia Crossing 10K Run/Walk

Experience the Great Columbia Crossing 10K Run/Walk on October 11th, 2026, starting at 7 AM from the historic Astoria-Megler Bridge. This annual race offers runners and walkers a unique opportunity to traverse this iconic bridge, which is opened only once a year for pedestrian traffic, providing breathtaking views of the Columbia River. The course covers 6.2 miles with slight elevation changes, ensuring an unforgettable journey through two states.
The firm yet slightly soft surface of the bridge creates an ideal running environment, enhanced by the occasional gusts of wind that reach up to 12 miles per hour. This dynamic element adds a thrilling adventure for participants as they move through cool air, feeling like they are part of something special and historic. The race has been a cornerstone of Astoria’s fall calendar since its inception, drawing thousands each year with proceeds going towards local community scholarships and bridge maintenance.
The weather is expected to be mild and comfortable on the day of the event, with temperatures ranging from 9.6°C to 16.1°C. Despite an average humidity level of 80.7%, runners can expect a pleasant experience under these conditions. Participants will start their journey at the Astoria Community Center on October 7th from 3 PM to 6 PM if they wish to pick up their bibs, with ID or proof of age required for those under 18.
The race is open to all ages and abilities, making it accessible to seasoned athletes as well as casual walkers. There will be no aid stations along the course, but water will be available at the start/finish line area. For those unable to physically cross the bridge, virtual participation options are also available with shipping for race packets included.
