The Montane Via Series Training Race, set to take place on November 8, 2026, offers runners two distinct routes through the scenic landscapes of Hangzhou's YuHang District. The race will start at Jiaotou Cultural Village and features a challenging yet rewarding course that promises an unforgettable experience for all participants.
The event includes the "Xunxiao 24K" route with approximately 22.2 kilometers, featuring around 1,400 meters of elevation gain over its seven-hour window from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This longer course takes runners deep into the valley where they will encounter historical sites such as the ruins of Daoist Daxi Palace, one of the Thirty-Six Minor Celestial Temples in ancient China. The route traces paths that were once frequented by scholars and poets during the Tang Dynasty.
The "Yunlan 15K" is a slightly shorter but equally captivating journey covering about 15.4 kilometers with approximately 900 meters of elevation gain over four-and-a-half hours from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. This route begins at Yunlan Village and ascends through the lush forests leading up to Board Bridge Mountain, which is in close proximity to Hangzhou's ancient bamboo flute-making heritage site.
Both routes offer runners a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural significance as they traverse trails that wind past historic landmarks and through areas rich with traditional craftsmanship. The race not only celebrates physical endurance but also highlights the region’s profound historical ties to Daoism, literature, and artisanal traditions such as the crafting of bamboo flutes.
