Nestled along the Suffolk coast, the Walberswick Coastal Challenge offers runners and walkers an enchanting journey through diverse landscapes. Starting from the charming village hall of Walberswick, participants will embark on a scenic route that winds its way around Minsmere and Dunwich, taking in stunning views of heathland footpaths and coastal vistas.
For 2026, the event organizers have made slight adjustments to accommodate ongoing construction for Sizewwick C. Despite this change, runners can expect an engaging course that showcases the region's natural beauty. The race day begins at 8:00 AM with a staggered start for walkers and slower runners, followed by faster runners taking off at 9:00 AM.
Participants are encouraged to arrive early as parking is limited around Walberswick Village Hall; a nearby public car park offers convenient space but charges £5 per vehicle. Carpooling is highly recommended to minimize environmental impact and ensure everyone has access to the event site.
The route description, complete with an optional GPX file for GPS navigation, will be available at least one week before race day. It's important that all entrants adhere strictly to this provided guidance as substitutions are not allowed once entries have been confirmed.
Upon crossing the finish line by 5:00 PM, runners and walkers can look forward to a hearty meal, hot drinks, and refreshments along the route at designated checkpoints. All participants will receive a certificate upon completion of their journey.
The event takes place in October, promising early autumn weather but also preparing for potential inclement conditions with essential kit requirements such as waterproof clothing, warm layers, suitable footwear, maps or GPS devices, personal food, drink containers, and any necessary allergy information to be shared with the organizers beforehand. Vegetarian options will be available at meal times, though those with specific dietary needs are advised to bring their own provisions.
For younger participants under 18 years old, a responsible adult must accompany them throughout the event, ensuring all safety guidelines are followed and that they have completed a parental consent form which can be obtained by contacting the organizers in advance. Dogs are welcome on leads but cannot enter checkpoint buildings; third-party insurance is mandatory for pets.
