9. Dörenther Klippen UltraTrail

Nestled in the rolling hills of Ibbenbüren, Germany, lies the picturesque Wanderparkplatz "Dörenther Klippen," where runners gather for an unforgettable journey through nature and history. This unique race offers both marathon (45.6 km) and half-marathon distances (22.8 km), each featuring a challenging yet rewarding course that winds around the Dörenther Klippen, known locally as "The Hunched Woman."
Starting from Münsterstraße B 219 near Ibbenbüren's Brumleyweg exit on A30, runners head towards Saerbeck and Münster for approximately 1.8 kilometers to reach the starting point at Wanderparkplatz.
Each lap of the marathon course totals around 11.4 km with a significant elevation gain of 280 meters per loop. The route follows the Dörenther Klippen hiking trail, which is renowned for its dramatic cliffs and stunning views. Runners will encounter several notable landmarks along the way: the Hunched Woman rock formation, Almhütte (a charming mountain hut that may be open during good weather), and various striking geological features such as Dreikaiserstuhl, Siamesische Zwillinge, and Königsstein.
The trail also leads through Brochterbeck where runners will make a slight detour to the Haselnussgang before returning to continue along scenic paths leading into Bocketal. The course includes steep ascents up to Wetterpilz (Weather Pillar) followed by a descent towards Ibbenbüren, passing near the former Steinkohlekraftwerk.
Participants can enjoy breathtaking vistas of rugged cliffs and lush forests while navigating challenging terrain that tests both mental and physical prowess. Each loop ends back at Wanderparkplatz where runners may collect their own refreshments from personal vehicles or take advantage of water points along the route if available during favorable weather conditions.
