Welcome to Albion Ascent Trail Race, an urban adventure that combines natural beauty and challenging terrain right here in Hamilton. This chip-timed event offers runners of all levels a chance to explore some of the city’s hidden gems through diverse landscapes including rivers, waterfalls, forests, and stunning fall foliage. The 5K route is perfect for beginners or those looking for an easy introduction to trail running. It features rolling hills with concrete paths and dirt trails winding through King's Forest, complete with a footbridge river crossing and some steep climbs on Albion Hill. This non-technical course provides a gentle yet engaging experience, ideal for runners who want to avoid more rugged single-track sections. For those ready to step it up, the 10K route adds an extra layer of challenge. Starting in King’s Forest, you’ll tackle the daunting climb of Albion and then venture onto the Bruce Trail. This portion includes a taste of rugged terrain with two breathtaking waterfalls—Felker's Falls and Devil's Punch Bowl—and Red Hill Valley Creek crossing twice. The views along this route are nothing short of spectacular. The 21K distance is designed for seasoned trail runners who crave technical challenges. It begins on the paved paths in King’s Forest, gradually warming up your muscles before hitting you with a relentless climb over Albion Hill. Most of the race follows the rugged and technical Bruce Trail, offering jaw-dropping vistas at Felker's Falls and Devil's Punch Bowl not once but twice. This out-and-back course is considered one of Hamilton’s most breathtaking routes. For younger runners, we have two kid-friendly options: a 1K run across the bridge along Red Hill Valley Trail with a medal to celebrate their achievement; and a slightly longer 3K route that also includes crossing over the bridge and exploring parts of the trail. Both races are designed for fun and safety with flat terrain. Each participant receives an eco-friendly, Canadian-made toque from Runner’s Den as part of your race kit, perfect for cooler weather conditions. Medals can be purchased separately at a reduced fee to help keep entry costs low and maintain our commitment to sustainability. Aid stations along the course offer Xact energy bars, water, electrolyte beverages, and other surprises strategically placed every few kilometers starting from the start/finish line, 3.5K mark, and again at the 8K point. Bring your own reusable cup or bottle for hydration stops. Race day registration is available but only accepts cash or electronic transfer payments on-site. Race kits can be picked up either Friday evening before race day or early Sunday morning right at Greenhill Bowl Park near Rosedale Park. We encourage all participants to leave no trace, respect the environment and volunteers who help make this event possible. Enjoy the stunning views of Hamilton’s picturesque trails while taking in every moment along your journey! Albion Ascent offers a flexible refund policy for those whose plans change—100% deferral if you cancel at least 30 days before race day, allowing you to carry over your entry fee to next year. Within the last month leading up to the event, free bib transfers are available until four days prior. Join us this fall and experience Albion Ascent Trail Race for an unforgettable adventure in Hamilton’s natural beauty. Explore more details about parking options at Greenhill Bowl Park or Rosedale Park, both of which offer ample space. Public transit is also a convenient alternative with stops near the start line.
