Experience the charm of historic Amherstburg on July 1, 2026, by joining the Canada Day 5k Run/Walk/Wheel. This vibrant community event kicks off an entire day filled with fun and festivities in a timeless setting. The race will commence at 9:00 AM sharp from the picturesque grounds of Fort Malden Historic Park on Laird Avenue. The course weaves through Amherstburg’s historic downtown, offering runners a chance to explore its rich heritage while enjoying the local scenery. Firefighters will be on hand to cool you down and provide support along the route. Participants in both the 5k and kids dash can expect enthusiastic crowds cheering them on every step of the way. Last year's event saw over 1000 participants, making it one of the most spirited races in Windsor-Essex County. Every dollar raised goes back to local charities, with last year’s efforts contributing a remarkable $24,000. Register by May 1 for guaranteed adult race shirts and secure your spot before this popular event sells out again. Race kits will be available for pick-up on June 30 from 3:30-7:00 PM at the Amherstburg Libro Centre (3295 Meloche Rd). On race day, head to Fort Malden between 7:30 and 8:30 AM. The kids dash will start promptly at 9:00 AM, with a 1km route around the waterfront. Younger children can turn back when they wish; all that matters is crossing the finish line in your bib for a medal. The adult race follows shortly after (usually starting at 9:15 AM). This event is proudly hosted by W.R.A.C.E., a volunteer-run not-for-profit organization dedicated to conservation projects within our region. After the run, immerse yourself in all that Amherstburg has to offer—check out visitamherstburg.ca for details on local activities. Volunteers are always welcome! Contact Molly at 519-796-9155 or mollymarie405@hotmail.com, or Dan at dallaire27@hotmail.com if you wish to be part of this cherished tradition. The race will feature a sublimation shirt for adults in both men's and women’s sizes.
