BARC Labor Day Races

On Labor Day (Monday, September 7th), Bay City's Vet’s Park hosts the 53rd edition of the BARC Labor Day Races, an annual celebration that brings together runners and walkers for some spirited competition. The scenic course winds through both Vet’s Park and Bigelow Park on paved sidewalks and paths, offering a smooth rolling terrain ideal for all skill levels.
The day kicks off at 10:00 AM with simultaneous starts of the challenging 10K run and the more accessible 5K run/walk event. Both courses are designed to showcase the natural beauty and well-maintained pathways within these vibrant parks, providing a safe environment for participants to push their limits or enjoy a leisurely stroll.
For those looking for an extra dose of fun, there's also a free Kids Fun Run at 11:15 AM, catering specifically to children aged one through twelve. This event is not only enjoyable but also awards all young runners with medals upon completion, ensuring every child leaves feeling like a champion.
Awards ceremonies begin promptly at 11:30 AM and recognize top performers across various age categories for both the run and walk events. The overall winners in each gender category will be celebrated alongside masters (40 years and over) and grand masters (60 years and over), ensuring that every participant has a chance to shine.
Participants can choose from several registration options, with early bird discounts available until August 17th for those who want their official event shirt. The purple polyester long sleeve shirts are an exclusive addition for this year's race, but quantities will be limited after the deadline passes. On-site registration on race day is still possible at a slightly higher fee.
After crossing the finish line, runners and spectators alike can partake in a potluck-style tailgate that encourages community spirit with dishes brought by participants. Refreshments such as sandwiches, chips, and soda are provided to ensure everyone stays fueled throughout the celebration.
To participate, simply register online before September 5th at 11:30 PM or arrive early on race day for packet pickup starting at 8:30 AM near the softball fields in Veterans Park. Race organizers emphasize that no animals, roller skates/blades, bicycles, skateboards, or similar items are permitted to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment.
