Battle of the Borders

Trail runners will converge on the picturesque Shropshire Hills for an unforgettable weekend of racing on September 7th. The event offers both half marathon and full marathon distances through some of Britain's most stunning countryside.
Participants will embark from Carding Mill Valley, a tranquil setting nestled within the National Trust’s protected area, where they’ll encounter rolling hills and rugged landscapes that define this part of Shropshire. Both race routes traverse the iconic Long Mynd, offering panoramic views across verdant valleys and distant peaks.
For those tackling the full marathon distance, it's important to note that there are no loops or out-and-back sections; runners will complete a single lap covering 26.2 miles in total. The course is meticulously marked but participants should bring their own maps for orientation. A rucksack with essential supplies such as at least half a liter of water and basic first aid items must be carried throughout the race.
The starting line goes off promptly at 9am, allowing ample daylight to explore the scenic trails before heading back towards Carding Mill Valley for the finish. Marathon runners have a strict cut-off time of seven hours in total, meaning they need to complete their initial lap by noon if attempting another loop.
Church Stretton, known as "The Town That Time Forgot," is just moments away from the start/finish area and offers charming amenities including a nearby train station for easy access. The race organizers provide friendly marshals along with well-stocked aid stations throughout both distances to keep runners fueled and motivated.
Upon crossing the finish line, participants will receive an impressive medal celebrating their achievement. This event promises not only challenging terrain but also a memorable experience in one of England’s most beautiful regions.
