Bennachie Hill Race (Sponsored by Craigdon Mountain Sports)

The Bennachie Hill Race, nestled in North-East Scotland, is a beloved fixture on the regional race calendar that appeals to both seasoned hill runners and road racers. Spanning approximately 8.2 miles (13.1 kilometers) with an ascent of around 1600 feet (500 meters), this off-road challenge offers breathtaking views and varied terrain.
The event begins at Back O’Bennachie car park near Insch, where participants will traverse some of the most iconic features of Bennachie Hill including Oxen Craig, Craigshannoch, and Mither Tap. The route winds through these landmarks before descending via the historic Maiden’s Causeway past Hosie’s Well and Nursery Cottage to return to the start line.
Scheduled for Sunday, 20 September 2026, this year's race will be fully chip-timed with no on-the-day entries accepted due to capacity constraints. Entry fees are set at £15 per runner, which includes a processing fee of .50p managed by Entry Central.
Race day activities commence early with registration and number pick-up from 9:30 am to 10:30 am sharp. The race itself kicks off promptly at 11 am followed by prizegiving around lunchtime at approximately 1 pm. Parking is available in a field adjacent to the Back O’Bennachie car park, near Oyne, Aberdeenshire AB52 6RH; however, runners are responsible for any Forestry and Land Scotland parking charges.
Participants should note that there will be no bag drop or changing facilities at the event site. Therefore, it is advisable to arrive prepared with all necessary items secured in your vehicle. Entrants will receive detailed final instructions via email a week before race day.
In case of pre-race cancellations or transfers, interested runners can utilize Entry Central until September 13th for self-managed changes. Any subsequent withdrawals should be communicated directly to the club Secretary who manages the waiting list on a first-come-first-served basis. No refunds will be issued if your place is reassigned.
