Cyclists looking for a challenging and scenic route can join the Fenland Clarion CC Cycling Time Trial on selected dates throughout April, May, June, July, and August. This event is open to members of Fenland Clarion CC, including first and second claim riders, as well as guests who are welcome but must adhere to club guidelines regarding membership after participating in two events.
The race starts at the top of Ufford Hill on the Ufford-Marholm road near Stamford, with participants setting off one minute apart. Riders will navigate through a course that winds its way along country roads and past landmarks such as King Street and Langley Bush Road before looping back to complete an approximate 10.4-mile circuit.
A notable feature of this route is the neutralized section in Bainton where riders are required to adhere strictly to speed limits, ensuring safety for both competitors and other road users. This stretch begins about 50 yards from a 20mph sign as you enter Bainton and ends at another limit marker near Ufford.
Before setting off on the course, cyclists will receive pre-race instructions and undergo checks to ensure they have proper lighting equipment and helmets in compliance with Cycling Time Trials (CTT) regulations. The event is organized under strict adherence to CTT rules and requires all participants to wear approved safety gear at all times during their ride.
Participants should be prepared for varying road conditions, including S-bends, sharp turns, and stretches where debris might pose a risk. Special attention must also be given when passing horse riders or navigating near farm vehicles that could obstruct the course. Cyclists are reminded to follow traffic rules meticulously throughout the event.
Parking is available at Vergette's Field shortly after crossing the finish line; this location offers ample space for participants and spectators alike, ensuring a comfortable experience post-race.
