Dartmoor Volcano Race

The Dartmoor Volcano Race, set to celebrate its 10th anniversary in the year 2026, marks the inaugural race of the OuterEdge series. This challenging trail run takes place over rugged Moorland tracks and trails that span a distance of 10.5 miles with nearly 650 meters of elevation gain.
Competitors will face technical terrain including rocky outcrops, bogs, and steep ascents as they traverse southern Dartmoor's highest point, Ryder’s Hill (515m). The race is framed by the striking presence of Red Lake Volcano, visible from miles around. This event has become a must-do for fell runners since its inception in 2015.
The race kicks off at 10:30 am and features well-marked courses with experienced trail runners serving as marshals to ensure safety throughout. All participants will receive a bespoke VOLCANO Race medal upon completion, adding an extra touch of recognition to the challenging journey.
Race day starts and finishes in Scorriton (TQ110JB), located just four miles off the A38 at the Buckfastleigh/Ashburton junction. Participants can purchase event T-shirts through SiEntries ahead of time for collection on race day.
The Dartmoor Volcano Race is sanctioned by UKA rules and licensed under the Trail Running Association, with permission granted from both Dartmoor National Park Authority and landowners. To ensure a safe experience, participants must adhere to a mandatory kit list available on our website.
