The 2026 Dartmouth Natal Day Road Races returns to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on Monday, August 3rd for its 120th edition. The race offers a unique blend of tradition and community spirit as it celebrates over a century of running history in the heart of Nova Scotian summer. Race morning finds participants gathering at Christ Church on Ochterloney Street, with Sullivan's Pond and downtown Dartmouth creating an idyllic backdrop for the event. This year’s course follows a 2-mile loop that provides runners with views of green parks and bustling neighborhoods. The firm yet slightly soft trail conditions make it challenging but enjoyable for all participants. Over the years, this race has grown to be one of the oldest in North America, attracting both competitive and recreational runners alike. In its 120th year, the Dartmouth Natal Day Road Races continues to uphold a tradition that brings together families and friends every summer. With participant numbers ranging from hundreds to thousands each year, it is clear why this event remains so beloved by locals. The course venue offers a picturesque route with two main distances: the 2-mile run for both adults and youth under 18 years old, and the more extensive 6-mile run also suitable for younger entrants. The race start and finish will be at Christ Church on Ochterloney Street, where participants can enjoy the historic setting before and after their run. On August 3rd, expect a high UV index of 7, indicating strong sun exposure during peak summer hours. Race day temperatures typically range from around 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, which may feel warm but is generally comfortable for running with appropriate clothing layers.
