In 2016, the Chinley Community Association transformed six red phone boxes into vital community resources by installing defibrillators inside them. Now, as these life-saving devices reach the end of their lifespan, the association is organizing a unique running event to raise funds for replacements.
The run covers approximately 10 kilometers (or about 6 miles) and challenges participants to visit all six defibrillator locations scattered throughout Chinley. Each stop features a stamp that runners must collect as proof of their visits. The course is unmarked, allowing runners the flexibility to choose their own route based on personal preference or pacing.
Participants can start anytime between 11am and noon at the Community Centre opposite the station. After completing the run, they are encouraged to stay for the Chinley Fête, which runs from 11am until 4pm that day, offering a full schedule of activities and entertainment.
Parking in the village is limited, particularly on fête days, so runners might want to consider taking advantage of direct train services from Manchester Piccadilly. Trains arrive at Chinley Station shortly before the race begins, making it easy for participants to join the event directly after their journey.
All donations collected during this run will go towards ensuring that these critical defibrillators remain operational and accessible within the community.
This event not only supports a good cause but also offers runners an opportunity to explore Chinley's scenic routes while contributing to the safety of its residents.
