Spunch! invites adventure seekers, families, friends, and fitness enthusiasts to embark on an exciting mini-adventure that combines the thrill of treasure hunting with a unique twist. This family-friendly event is designed for all ages and abilities, offering flexibility whether you're running or walking. Participants can choose from 3km to 33km distances, tailored to fit your personal preference and pace.
The Spunch! experience unfolds over three course durations: 60 minutes, 120 minutes, and 180 minutes. You'll have the freedom to select a duration on the day of the event based on how much time you wish to spend exploring. The goal is simple yet challenging—visit as many checkpoints as possible within your chosen timeframe using satellite punching technology via the MapRun app or compatible devices like Garmin watches and Apple Watches.
With over 60 SpunchPoints scattered across diverse terrains, each participant has a chance to rack up points through strategic navigation and exploration. The event is open to solo runners, pairs, and groups of three or more, ensuring there's an option for everyone. For those who prefer not to go it alone, organizers can pair you with other participants on the night before the race.
The adventure takes place at CrossFit Lightning Bolt Gym in Macclesfield, offering both indoor and outdoor spaces that cater to all ages and fitness levels. The venue is conveniently located near several major transportation hubs, making it easy for visitors from Knutsford, Wilmslow, Bramhall, Stockport, Poynton, Disley, Whaley, Buxton, Leek, Biddulph, Congleton, Holmes Chapel, and beyond to attend.
Registration opens at 9am on the day of the event, with start times ranging from 9am until 11:30am. The last starts for longer courses are set at 10am (for the 180-minute course) and 11am (for the 120-minute course). Post-event refreshments will be provided by That Food Truck, offering a variety of breakfast and brunch options along with hot and cold beverages.
The event's route winds through picturesque countryside trails, hills, canals, Middlewood Way paths, parks, and semi-urban areas. This diverse landscape ensures that both newcomers and locals alike will discover new routes and hidden gems during their exploration. While the terrain is varied, ranging from tarmac to off-road paths, participants should be prepared for potential muddy conditions.
To enhance your experience, consider bringing a fold-up camping chair or similar seating option as space may be limited. The venue also offers parking, registration assistance, bag drop facilities, restrooms, start and finish lines, results tracking, food, and drink options all within close proximity to the event site.
