Immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of Carson City, Nevada for Desert Island Trail Runs, formerly known as Love Can Be Cold. This autumnal adventure is part three and culminates an exciting Fall Series that showcases some of the most captivating trail networks surrounding the city. The event offers a variety of distances to cater to different preferences: a 6K loop, a challenging 12K course, and for those seeking more mileage, a scenic 22K trek. All routes start and finish at the Prison Hill OHV Staging Area, located south of Snyder Road Trailhead. Participants will find themselves navigating through single-track trails and double tracks within the Prison Hill Recreation Area. Registration remains open until October 9th with early bird pricing: $30 for both the 6K and 12K runs, while the longer distance is priced at $35. Those who register after this date or opt to pay on race day will see prices rise slightly to $40 for the shorter courses and $45 for the longest route. Race morning registration begins at 7:45 AM with a cutoff time of 8:45 AM, ensuring that all participants can enjoy a stress-free start. Cash, check, or Zelle transfers are accepted on race day, but punctuality is key to avoid delays and missed opportunities. The course itself offers an array of terrains, from gentle stretches along dirt roads to challenging ascents through the Prison Hill Recreation Area's rocky outcroppings. For runners tackling the 21K distance, there will be a single aid station around mile seven where water will be available for hydration needs. While no awards are given in traditional divisional formats, every finisher receives an intangible sense of accomplishment and camaraderie among fellow trail enthusiasts. The race aims to maintain the casual yet vibrant atmosphere that characterized its predecessor series while adapting to provide a more versatile range of distances suitable for cooler fall temperatures. Whether you're driving from Reno or Carson Valley, detailed directions are provided on the event website to ensure easy access to the Prison Hill OHV Staging Area parking lot. Plenty of space is available for vehicles parked in an orderly fashion along parallel lines. Join us this autumn as we celebrate the beauty and diversity of Nevada's trails at Desert Island Trail Runs. It’s more than a race; it’s an experience that invites you to explore, challenge yourself, and connect with nature on one of its finest paths.
