Returning for its second consecutive year, the Gliding Weekend hosted by the Charente-Maritime Surf Committee presents an exciting European step of Stand Up Paddle (SUP) racing. This prestigious EuroTour SUP 5 event offers a prize purse of €8,000 and attracts top competitors from across Europe and beyond. The Technical Race will take place in the picturesque Bay of Pontaillac on September 19th, showcasing this iconic venue known for its stunning coastal beauty. Competitors can expect to navigate challenging conditions as they compete over a course distance of 2.5 kilometers, comprising two laps of 1.25km each with mandatory beach landings. Competitors are encouraged to register early and validate their entries at the Gliding Weekend village on Friday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM or Saturday morning between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM, where they will receive race bibs and welcome packs. Race briefings begin promptly at 10:00 AM with the first technical races starting just half an hour later. The Technical Races feature both men’s and women's divisions, offering a thrilling showcase of skill as racers vie for top honors in their respective categories. Based on participant numbers, several heats may be organized to ensure fair competition leading up to the grand finale. Race organizers emphasize that this event also counts towards regional rankings, adding an extra layer of significance beyond its status within the EuroTour circuit. Following a day filled with intense racing and camaraderie among athletes, prize presentations will take place around 2:00 PM at the main stage in the vibrant Gliding Weekend village.
